Miami
Museum - Miami is literally spilling over
with museums for tourists to visit. There is plenty
for the intrepid museum explorer to see, and you will
never be short of somewhere to spend an afternoon
or a day.. Almost all of Miami’s Museums
are worth a visit, and it’s a hard
task to try and decide which is the better choice
– it all depends on your own interests.
Some of the Miami Museums you might
consider visiting include:
Vizcaya Museum and Gardens
About a tenth of the population of 10,000 living in
Miami about 1912, were employed by James Deering to
build an Italian Renaissance style residence. Deering
was a Chicago industrialist of great wealth. Now it
is a magnificent relic of that time and is situated
on 30 acres of parkland of which 10 acres is beautiful
formal gardens and fountains right overlooking Biscayne
Bay. What a setting. The Americas Summit in 1994 was
held here and it has been used to welcome Pope John
Paul and Queen Elizabeth of England. There are a number
of tours to cover some of the historic connections.
Entrance to the House is $12 and about 34 rooms are
open to the public.
Gold Coast Railroad Museum
This museum has a collection of historic railroad
cars and memorabilia dating back to the arrival of
the railroad in Miami in 1895. Children
can have a day out with Thomas the Tank Engine and
there are also cab and link rides at the weekend.
Admission for 12 years and over is $5 with children
under 12 $3.
Historical Museum of Southern Florida
If you want to get some idea of Miami’s past
history, this is the museum for your. It covers South
Florida’s past and there are hands-on displays
and exhibitions. It tells the story of the last 10,000
years of South Florida and the Caribbean. There are
a number of special exhibits throughout the year.

Miccosukee Indian Village
Native Miccosukee Indians sustain their way of life
in the Everglades and educate visitors about their
heritage. Features museum, restaurant and gift shop.
The Village is just half an hour drive west of Miami
in Dade County. There are guides to tour you round
the history of the Miccosukee and the Gift Shop has
fascinating patchwork, beadwork, silver jewelry for
sale
Miami Children’s Museum
The Miami Children’s Museum is just that a museum
for children and it is specially geared for their
needs with interactive exhibits, programs, hands-on
experiences. The museum moved to a new 56,500 sq.ft.
facility in September 2003. Among the exhibits are
the Castle of Dreams, Health and Wellness Center,
a Safety Zone, Brazil Section, Miami – Port
of Call, Ocean Odyssey, and Meet Miami – pretend
you are living in Miami at different times in history.
